A new version of the DirecTV Now app from AT&T Services hit the App Store late on Monday evening. Bringing the app to v1.8.8, this latest update provides only “Performance enhancements and bug fixes.” If you’re a DirecTV Now subscriber, however, that’ll be all you want.
Available for both iOS and tvOS, the DirecTV Now app allows subscribers to stream live TV and on-demand entertainment. “Enjoy news, sports, events, and shows as they air. Your favorite TV series and movies can be accessed anywhere, anytime.”
The trouble with the service is that a lot of users have been reporting ongoing buffering and outage issues for quite some time now. This is the 10th performance enhancement update since July 27, 2017, so hopefully, AT&T is closer now to providing a reliable service for all its customers. The DirecTV Now programming package and price point are pretty great, but that doesn’t account for much when you can’t watch your shows and movies without stuttering.
It’s also worth noting that the update contains no announcement regarding the DVR service, which has been in beta since July of 2017. Many subscribers recently received DVR beta invitations, so hopefully, AT&T is pushing closer to a full launch.
Regardless of whether this update completely addresses the problems with the DirecTV Now service, it’s good to see AT&T providing updates on a regular basis (typically one or two a month). Sooner or later, one of them is bound to get the job done.
